Advertising Australian Domain Names  E-mail

According to the SMH, The auDA board has recently accepted the recommendations of a review panel to lift the ban on advertising Australian domain names. Up until recently, it's been illegal for people to advertise, auction, trade or otherwise sell any .AU TLD's. Trading domains does happen, but not on the scale or with the transparency that is commonplace on many .COM markets.

AU domains, while still valuable, iusually worth fetch anywhere near the amount that a .COM would sell for. Bruce Tonkin (Melbourne IT) has a rule of thumb for comparing the prices of US and Australian domain names: divide by 100. Still, if you are sitting on a pile of .AU domain names you might be able to get a good price from the right buyer by advertising on a domain marketplace like Sedo or Afternic.
